F22 on a Vaillant ecoTEC means there is not enough water pressure in the system. Vaillant describe it as a dry fire protection. The boiler stops to avoid heating without enough water.

Check the pressure gauge, top up with the filling loop as your manual shows, and reset. If the pressure keeps falling, the leak is the job worth doing.

Many ecoTEC boilers in Coventry sit in newer homes with fitted kitchens. The boiler is boxed in, so a small drip can run for weeks before anyone sees it. The gauge is often the first warning.

What's involved

Our Vaillant F22 Fault Code in Coventry

Read the pressure

Cold, around one bar is typical. Your manual gives the exact figure for your model.

Top up slowly

Open the filling loop gradually and close it fully at the right reading. Then reset the boiler.

Why it stops

Running with too little water can damage the heat exchanger, so the boiler protects itself. The code is the safety system working.

When it returns

A weeping radiator valve, a joint under the floor, or an expansion vessel that has lost its charge. Trace it once rather than refilling forever.

How the engineer checks

They compare the gauge with the vessel pressure, then inspect the valves, the pipework and the relief pipe. Boxed-in boilers take longer to inspect, so allow a little more time.

What to send us

A photo of the gauge and one of the boiler with the cupboard open. Tell us how often it drops and whether you have bled the radiators lately.

Good to know

Vaillant F22 Fault Code questions

Is F22 dangerous?

No. It is the boiler preventing damage to itself. Smell gas? Leave the house, do not use switches, and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999. A fault code is never a gas leak, but a smell always is.

F22 appeared after I bled the radiators.

That is expected. Bleeding lets water out. One top-up should clear it.

How often should I top up?

Rarely. More than a couple of times a year means water is escaping somewhere. A boiler that needs topping up monthly has a fault that will not fix itself.

What affects the cost of a F22 repair?

The source of the loss. A recharged vessel is quick. A buried joint takes longer. The engineer finds the source first and explains the job before starting.
